The log mantel can have the log power washed so there is no cambium or bark left on the log, or the mantel can have the log Clearean peeled so it has scallops created from a drawknife. Any rustic mantel can have log supports under the half log, or it can be made without the log supports. Your fireplace mantel can even be made out of timbers to get the Barnwood look. However you might want your log mantel, it will have character and will enhance any rustic or cabin decor.
